Castle Stays

Sleep inside the history.
Real castle hotels, château B&Bs, and stays on historic estates across Europe.

Castle Stays is StoneKeep Atlas’s reference for sleeping in a real castle. Every place here is a genuine historic castle, château, Schloss, fortress, or palace where you can actually book a room, tied to the true story of the building you sleep in. Not a modern hotel that borrowed the word “castle” for its sign.

What belongs here. Bookable overnight stays inside historic castles and their historic estate buildings, whether a full hotel, a family-run château B&B, or a self-catering apartment. We leave out modern hotels merely themed “castle,” and venues you can tour or marry in but cannot sleep in.

How we choose, and how we check. We weigh the character of the stay, its value, and how easily you can reach it, and we always tell you where you actually sleep: in the castle itself, in a converted building on the historic estate, or in a modern wing. Operating status, sleep location, the rough nightly price, and the booking channel are verified against each property’s own website and dated. Our lists are curated, not exhaustive.

Last reviewed: June 2026.

StoneKeep Atlas recommends castle stays on their merits, whether or not we earn a commission. Where a property books only through its own website, we tell you and link you straight to it. Where we do earn, it is always at no extra cost to you.
